Campaign Story
Hello everyone,
This is Avie, my friend's 11 year-old blind pocket pit. After a rough start to life for the first 10 years, she has finally found herself living the life she has always deserved. She is such an AMAZING pup. She is an overall healthy dog, so when her urinary tract infections began, it was a complete mystery why.
Starting in January 2021, Avie began having recurrent urinary tract infections. She has been treated 13 times since January! This poor dog can't catch a break. She has had a UTI about once a month, and in October she had 3 back to back. After seeing how uncomfortable and how much pain she was in with these infections, I needed to get more answers.
After having a diagnostic ultrasound in October, the doctor found a urachal diverticulum in her bladder. This is a congenital defect that she was born with which flares up, typically once a dog gets older. The inflammation causes repeat infections.
After seeing the soft tissue specialist, he stated this is a defect that can only be fixed with surgery. Avie cannot avoid surgery by continuing taking antibiotics as the bacteria are growing resistant.
On top of that, Avie has several mammary tumors (probably from being bred too many times) that also need to be removed during this surgery, which will prevent them from progressing to cancer and therefore extending her life.
After consulting several doctors for opinions, they all feel this procedure is what isnecessary and best for her and foresee Avie girl living many more beautiful years.
