Campaign Story
I believe that knowledge has to be shared, to help people develop in life.
I can help with the economic development of communities, with the knowledge I have in implementing Sustainable Tourism.
And I would like to pass it on for free, helping communities and people thrive.
The proposal is to create a step-by-step book on a common strategy for implementing Sustainable Tourism in communities.
The difference between my proposal and several available books is that I intend to explain how to do it and not point out the necessary topics for regional surveys and research. Regional information will also be tabulated, but in a simple and easy way, as it will be obtained with the participation of the community.
Systematic actions will be described, defining a concrete line of actions for the implementation of a chain of interrelationships of different agents and segments, with a focus on creating an income generation mechanism for communities based on Sustainable Tourism.
It will be a pre-defined Action Plan that can be implemented in the most varied communities and regions, creating a network of regional associations and directing the real implementation of tourism in a sustainable way.
Usually this planning is done with paid consultants, but I'm interested in showing it in a didactic and easy-to-understand way, aiming to provide real conditions for communities to do it for themselves.
For small towns, regional NGOs and community leaders, a paid consultancy can make it unfeasible to implement correctly, which results in a waste of resources and time, but providing access to a strategy described in a simple way can create conditions for the implementation of Tourism as a mechanism that generates income for people in the community.
I have already implemented the strategy that will be described in the city of São Paulo / Brazil, where a network of regional associations was created, integrating different business segments in the tourism chain, where the community had full participation and became a source of income for the different agents and entrepreneurs.
In a succinct way, awareness and organization of the community was carried out, the norms of action of the various segments were created, training was articulated by sector, the tourist itineraries developed, the dissemination strategy for tourists was created and, finally, the visits began, always acting from organized and joint way.
As an example, I mention that the community awareness stage will be explain: how to call the community to participate in an explanatory lecture, what will be said in the lecture, how to capture information to be tabulated aiming at understanding the regional potential of tourism, and the organization into segments of people interested in participating in tourism. It will be a practical book.
The proposal is that it be a free knowledge in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
Quickly - Who I Am:
I was one of the drafters of the “Regional Sustainable Development Plan – APA Capivari Monos (PDSR)” exposed at the “3rd World Tourism Forum for Peace and Sustainable Development”.
I am Manager of Public Policies for Tourism (Federal University of Santa Catarina).
I am Internal Auditor in Security System for Adventure Tourism (ABETA – ABNT NBR 15331).
I was also Secretary of Tourism and Environment in the city of Cafelândia / State of São Paulo/ Brazil.
Brief description of what I have already done and which will be the basis of the common planning to be described:
A network of associations was created in the southern region of the city of São Paulo (Brazil), in the Capivari Monos Environmental Protection Area.
People in the community were grouped by segments, as follows: Tourism Monitors, Land Owners, Restaurants, Artisans (handicraft), Enterprise Owners, Travel Agencies, Support Services (such as pharmacies, gas stations, bakeries,... ). The way each segment would work was defined, aiming at interrelationship, creating a cluster mesh of companies and local agents.
For each segment, several specific rules were created that should be followed, being debated with the agents of each segment, for example: the Tourism Monitors defined the number of people that one monitor could have in the group when walking in the forest.
In order to enter the properties where the tourist itineraries were, it was necessary to join the association of monitors of the region (who were trained in First Aid, Survival in the Jungle, Search and Rescue).
The restaurants should prefer the use of regional horticultural products.
The inns and small hotels sent the materials for recycling to the regional cooperative
The travel agencies communicated in advance with the monitors so as not to extrapolate the number of people allowed per day in each itinerary. Well, the number of people who could enter each itinerary per month were defined, aiming at environmental preservation.
The artisans (handicrafts) had spaces organized for exhibition in the enterprises, restaurants and in places where tourists were received. For this they had to adopt responsible behavior.
Combating sex tourism was adopted as an obligation, in order to report to the police authorities.
These are just a few points to get an idea of how the regional association network will be created, there are several topics that should be addressed in a simple way.
This book will help communities a lot, as it will be didactic to implement a real strategy that can help where it is needed most, in the implementation of a new market that generates resources for the people of the region.
Please, consider helping to make this book, which can greatly help communities' economic development.
