Introduction:

In 1943, due to the economic migration, Petrus Sophinia Rezant, relocated to Cape Town from De Aar. With limited resources S.P. Rezant then started a band which consisted of all thirteen his children. His sons played various instruments in the band such as the saxophone; banjo; guitar; double bass; tambourine and piano accordian. S.P. Rezant did not only have sons, but daughters as well who all sang in the band. This band created a newly formed genre of music which then became extremely popular and eventually made its home amongst the previously coloured section of the AFM church. This band would often play at church services and conferences.

After the passing of S.P. Rezant, Sophinia Henry Rezant, took over the band and then began teaching other family members. In 1953 S.H. Rezant completed his studies at Sarepta Theological College and in 1954 he was called to start a congregation in Tulbagh. When S.H. Rezant left, Willie Rezant Senior, then took over the band and began leading rehearsals in the week. Willie also conducted the band on weekends when the band would perform at various events. After Willie had completed his studies at Sarepta Theological College he focused all of his attention on the band and officially started the Star of Calvary Band. Initially the band consisted mainly of family members that were part of the brass band, but later on as the band grew other non-family members also began joining the brass band. The band then started participating in the annual Christmas Choir Band Competitions where they would compete against other Christmas Bands.

Today four generations later, the band still exists and has now started to extend to our younger generation as well.

We also serve to revive dormant memories within those whom we used to perform for at past functions such as 21st; Weddings; Funerals; Eistedfodds; Church Functions; Conferences; Street Parades; Charity Functions and variousother celebrations.

Date:

We would propose to have the CD Launch on the 23rdSeptember 2018
