This is the story of a fluffy little maltese, Zil.

Born in 2004, Zil has been well loved by everyone. No, we don’t consider her as our pet. She is a member of our family. This cheeky lil monkey grew up in a happy environment, surrounded with lots of love and care.

As an animal lover, it has always been my dream to be able to have a companion to grow up with. Before Zil came into my life, I was a quiet person, an introvert. My mum was reluctant at first as she is afraid of dogs and very particular in cleanliness, but she gave in as she sensed my sincerity and hope that by giving me a companion will make me a more happy and outgoing person. The day we brought Zil home was the happiest day of my life. I felt so blessed and thankful that her is finally here. My mum and Zil bonded surprisingly well, and they were almost inseparable. Yep you are right, Zil chose my mum over me. Hahaha.. It’s okay though. As long as she is happy, so will we.

In August 2016, my beloved mum passed on due to complication of heart issues and infection. Since then, Zil has changed. Although she still behaves normal, but we all are able to sense her sadness, knowing that mummy will not be there anymore. She will not be able to find that familiar scent of mummy, there will be no more chance for her to wag her tail in the evening on every weekdays, waiting for mummy to come back from work. Not anymore. I started to spend more time with her, playing and talking to her, letting her know that I will still be there for her.

18 July 2017 was the date when her health issue starts. She had a seizure. At this is the first time it happened, I felt helpless, not knowing what to do. After sending her to the vet for several tests and X rays, the vet diagnose that she has a heart problem. Heart murmur was detected, and her valves are not functioning well. It leads to irregular blood flow, causing her heart to pump harder than usual. She was also suffering from tracheal collapse(a type of respiratory disease) due to the heart disease and believe it or not, the heart issue she is facing was exactly the same as what my mum was suffering from. Vet advised that she needs to be on a long term medication. There were also episodes of her having syncope due to the sudden lack of oxygen in her brain. But after she started her medication, she got better and started going back to her normal cheerful self, and I am very thankful for that.

Being the only person with income in the family, I am now having difficulty for her medical expenses. Every visit to the vet and her minthly medication takes up a big portion of the family’s monthly expenses. My sibling is still depressed due to my mum’s passing, which is why she is unstable to work. We don’t mind spending the money as long as we can keep Zil going, but even though we have been really thrifty, it is still hard for us to cope. We really hope that you, the kind hearted soul will be able to help Zil to carry on living her life to the fullest. She means everything to the family. No matter how tiring it is, we will do our best to keep her going. She deserves a chance carry on her happy magical journey.

Thank you for your time reading the story of Zil, and may god bless your kind hearted soul.
