Service Dog Training

As most of my family and friends know, Cody has been my service dog for the past couple years. We haven't had a problem in Ontario, but the laws back in BC are different.

In 2016 BC implemented a mandatory certification and testing process to have legal access with a service dog, even for those only visiting.

If it weren't for the fact I'm originally from Vancouver and my family is still there, I just wouldn't plan to visit, but I do spend time there on a yearly basis. Sometimes I can deal with being out and about without Cody, but there are times when he allows me function and I want to be prepared for anything.

The BC government require specifics on what training the dog has done with a professional dog trainer and the actual test is based on 40 criteria that are pass or fail requiring a score of 100% to be certified.

I'm raising money to help cover the cost of obedience classes with a dog school I've done some work with a different dog previously (Toronto Centre for Canine Education) so that I meet the requirement of recorded training with a professional trainer for basic training. I'll also need to do a handful of private sessions to address specifics of some of the 40 scenarios tested for certification. The majority of the training I will continue to be doing on my own, but there are a few things that need to be worked on with a professional for guidance.

There is one obedience class we'll do for sure and preferably a second one as well if we have the money for it. The cost for those are $250+tax and $285+tax (if I pay for both at once there is a discount so it'd be $575+tax)

The individual sessions will be $275+tax for two 1hr sessions and then the decision will be made if any more are required - though I don't believe it will be necessary as Cody and I have a good training relationship on our own.
