On September 3rd vandals struck Elkhart's St. John The Baptist Chapel stripping away all the copper from the historic chapel.
WCIS - Copper Stripped From Historic Chapel
The historic chapel stands in the center of Elkhart Cemetery. It was built in 1890 and has since been the site of counless weddings and funerals. The locals joke that anybody who is anybody has prayed there.
The Elkhart chapel has special ties to the Dillard family. Stephanie's parents were married at the chapel and she was baptized there. Later Kirk and Stephanie got married at the chapel themselves.
The Dillard family wants to help make sure the chapel is preserved for future generations and would like to match any contributions to the "Elhart Vandalism Fund" up to $1000.00.
Help us restore this jewel of Illinois to it's full glory!
