Fundraising for Darcy

Hi everyone, some of you already know that my daughter Darcy was born with severe meningitis and group B strep back in 2010. She was diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency and hypothyroidism after a year of tests and scans. The main side effects of these conditions are delayed development and short stature, not to mention the daily struggles of being nearly 5 and being stuck in a one year olds body. Darcy is on daily hormone injections and tablets and has regular testing for diabetes and other abnormal hormone levels. She is awaiting an assessment by a physiotherapist as her growth delay is causing problems with her legs which may need correcting.

Darcy has started to suffer with leg and hip pain due to her short stature and the hormones forcing her body to grow. She also has difficulty walking and sitting for long periods of time due to her short legs. She also sufferers from poor muscle tone which means her legs get tired very quickly and can cause her discomfort.

Darcy will be starting school in September and I am starting to face additional costs in order for her to cope at school and at home.

The biggest obstacle at home is her lack of independence in the bathroom. She is too small to reach the toilet and sink and at the moment we have a shower which isn’t safe for her to use due to her size. I have set up this page to try and raise money to have a bath fitted and adaptations made to our bathroom in order to make everyday life a bit easier for Darcy. Having a bath would help to ease the discomfort in Darcy’s legs and muscles and adapting the toilet and sink would mean she could complete everyday simple tasks that the rest of us take for granted.

At this moment in time Darcy does not receive any funding and her medical condition is quite often overlooked as it isn’t classed as a form of dwarfism. Darcy also isn’t responding well to her growth injections and we may face her treatment being stopped sooner rather than later.

I am hoping to earn some donations by taking part in fundraising events and organising my own challenges to raise money for Darcy’s fund. I will set up a Facebook page so you can see what I’m up to and suggest some challenges you would like to see me complete. I can’t cure Darcy but with your help I can make her life easier.
