We need your help...
Built in 2011, The Yard Theatre exists to provide opportunities for emerging artists to develop new work that can't be found elsewhere and provide audiences with an unparalleled experience. The theatre was initially intended as a temporary space and, whilst this has worked over the last three years, we now need to make some changes to ensure that we offer you, artists and audiences, the best possible experience when you visit The Yard.
What we need...
Last year, with your generous support, we raised money to insulate our roof. This successful fund has made a big difference to keeping the building warm - and to our heating bill! We now ask that you help us to build a door to our venue which will help us to keep the warmth in, improve our Box Office facilities and also act as some necessary signage so everyone can find us more easily!
The plans...
The plan is to create a space that is inspired by the frontage of 20th century cinemas and theatres. We will create two separate entrances into the theatre and the bar with people walking past the Box Office to enter into the building. On top of this new lobby area we will create a large light box, which will detail what is happening in the theatre and the bar at any one time. As per usual we are ensuring that our carbon footprint remains low - the principal material that we'll be using are old car tyres that would otherwise be thrown in a landfill. We think this material is sturdy, offers great insulation and will aesthetically compliment The Yard's surroundings, our closest neighbours being car mechanics.
The aim is to create a space outside of The Yard that looks and feels welcoming, secure and exciting.
Thank you in advance for your generous support.
The Yard Team.
