We are part of the 'Animo Society' club from the British International School of Bratislava(BISB) in Slovakia. 'Animo Society' means 'Helping society with your talent and through the means of animation. The purpose of this club is to raise awareness and solve societal problems through the means of animation and with our talent. Starting from last year, we are focusing on generational poverty and limited opportunity in the Romani community.
During the past several weeks, the lives of millions of people have suddenly changed, and it made us forget the many other crises that bring suffering to so many people. One of the worst situations is within segregated Romani communities, where up to 87% of its population live below the poverty line. They have faced discrimination, persecution, and suffered from a vicious circle of poverty throughout the centuries. However, during this crisis, Romani people are more neglected in society.
Therefore, we decided to launch a ‘1044 project for Romani children’! There are officially 1044 Romani villages in Slovakia, and we are aiming to reach out to them and send ‘Educational/Creative activity kits’ every week to Romani children as educational and leisure purposes.
We will be creating these postcards that could share academic knowledge or show the steps of creating artworks with limited supplies. Each week will have a different theme that shows different ways of creating and learning, and we will send these postcards to them every week.
So far, we created four different designs with themes of safety instructions for coronavirus, dream, and education. Now we are planning to introduce each topic in education; maths, physical activities, science, geography, history, music, and more.
We are planning to raise €1044 to send our educational/creative activity kits to the children in need in Romani villages. Your support and donations can help us break the vicious cycle of poverty.
