10-months old from Ukraine needs your help!

A precious little Sergei Kapatsyn was born on June 30^th 2012 to an old friend of mine and a former classmate Elena in Nikolaev Ukraine.

I live in Boston, MA now and haven’t seen her in over 10 years (since we graduated high school). Last year Elena had her first son Sergei. On May 8^th 2013, little Sergey was diagnosed with juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia (JMML).

Sergei needs bone marrow transplant to survive and the family is asking anybody for help.

I learned about this through a social online network I belong to and got deeply disturbed by it. The family is trying to raise funds for the surgery through social networks, local newspapers and by posting ads around town.

The cost of the procedure is about $170,000 and where I come from people cannot afford to pay for it without help from outside donors. We do not have medical insurance in Ukraine. I set the fundraising goal at $11,000 to be able to give them $10,000 after all the fees (this site and PayPal). I hope they can raise much more from people and organizations locally but I am sure this would be a vital addition to their efforts.

I never got this involved in raising money for charitable causes. I understand that you may not trust to send money to the third party like myself. Otherwise, donate here and I will send all the proceeds to them.
