Hello, my name is Ian. My trail name is “Dry Eyes”. I am now walking the Pacific Crest Trail, which is PCT in short. It is a 2650-mile walk stretching between the Mexican and the Canadian border on the west coast of the United States.
15 years ago I was diagnosed with lymphoma. I was sick for almost 18 months. Death has been so close to me. Today, I can pursue my dream and walk on the PCT, thanks to a great person who donated his bone marrow, allowing me to complete my bone marrow transplant for recovery.
Each life affects another. Hope my story can help others too.
I am now doing a fundraising for the Hong Kong Bone Marrow Foundation. All raised fund, after deducting the admin charges, will be donated to the Hong Kong Bone Marrow Foundation for their daily operations as well as to maintain their data bank registry.
And I want to bring you an important message about the bone marrow donation procedure. There are two methods. The commonly known method requires the extraction of bone marrow from the hip bone. This procedure requires anesthesia. The other method is called Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Donation, which stem cells will be centrifuged from the blood while the rest of the components will go back to the donor. Recovery period will not be required. I hope more people will go to the Hong Kong Red Cross and register as one of the bone marrow donors. Not only can your act help other patients, but also their families.
I also want to give some positive energy to the people who are now sick. You don’t need to be a life warrior. You just need to hope for a better life you will have, and be patient for your day of recovery.
To all my friends, your support can be donation, and to register as a bone marrow donor, and you can also help spread the words.
Last but not least, let me share with you my favorite line, “Pain is sometimes the cost of a meaningful existence”.
Thank you.
