My cousin, Julie Gauby, was diagnosed with stage 4 colon and liver cancer over the summer. As she begins the physical fight of her life, I've decided to run one of the toughest races of my life in her honor.

Julie is the proud mama of 3 amazing children - Austin 20, Caitlin 17, and Mason 14. Before she was raising her own family, she helped raise my brothers and me, and before that, she helped raise her 3 younger sisters. Julie has been a caregiver for as long as I can remember. It is so nice to be able to do something tangible to honor her since she has spent her life caring for others.

As a result of her diagnosis, Julie is unable to work. 100% of the donations received will go directly to Julie so that she may enjoy every moment with her family and friends.

The Race 2 the Summit half marathon appealed to me for many reasons. I've been running for a long time and have entered countless races, half, and full marathons. I chose Race 2 the Summit because it so closely mirrors the physical struggle Julie is enduring. The first 6 miles of this race is a 1,628 foot climb to the top of the summit. Six miles straight uphill in beautiful Horshoebend, Idaho.
