Janet Cassidy Bates Janet Cassidy Bates, 56, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2012. Born in Lynchburg April 26, 1956, she was a daughter of the late John Ambrose Cassidy and Alice Kelly Cassidy. In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Cassidy. Janet is survived by her son, Jamie Bates, IV of Lynchburg; and her daughter, Jody Hockett and son-in-law Dennis Hockett of Iowa. Also survived by three granddaughters, Cassidy Hockett, Emma Hockett, and Abigail Hockett; a brother, Jack Cassidy; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as her best friend Barbara Shelton, and her beloved pet, "Baby." A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Hyland Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Carl Weiser officiating.
