Early next year (5th January) I will be turning 18. For my 18th I wanted to do something a little different. I have successfully applied to undertake a volunteer program on a remote island in Fiji. Acceptance into this volunteer was based on individual application and a total of 4 people are chosen, myself being one of them.
The remote island lies on the outer regions of the Mamanuca Islands and is about an hour or ferry ride from the main land. It is one of the very few traditional Fijian villages left in Fiji. 3 other strangers and myself will spend a week living with a Fijian family. Living conditions are very basic where luxuries we take for granted are inexistent. I will be working at a local school from 8am to 4pm every day, which have many needs for educational assistance, community development and vocational support. I will also be documenting the entire experience through film and photography to eventually share with everyone. The organization I will be associated with is Involvement Volunteers International. This is an Australian bases non-profit volunteer organization with over 25 years of service in over 40 countries worldwide.
I have since created a gogetfunding page in order to help with raising funds for resources for the local community and the volunteer program. Every cent of the funds raised will go directly towards this cause and every little bit of help would mean so much. All donations are gratefully accepted and appreciated!
