Brave Zaff’s Pre and Post Liver Transplant Fundraising Campaign

Zaffrina is a 3 year-old girl from the Philippines and was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia (BA) when she was 3 months old. BA is the cirrhosis of the liver, a condition which can be fatal and commonly requires surgery. It is a rare disease affecting infants and children and because Zaff’s liver is already damaged, a liver transplant is necessary for her to continue living and eventually have a normal life.

Currently, Zaff and her mother are in India for the liver transplant procedure and it took them years and several donation drives just to get there and be lined up for the operation. They are stationed at Max Healthcare, New Delhi, India where the transplant will be performed and where the expert doctors in the said procedure are in. The said operation is ‘relatively less expensive’ in India compared to the rate here in the Philippines that’s why her mother really pushed to have the procedure to be performed there.

The cost of liver transplant is expensive itself but the financial burden will not end just there. After the procedure, continuous and lifelong care is required. Frequent contact with physicians and other members of the transplant team is also necessary. Celina, Zaff’s mother, is a single mom who is doing everything to make ends meet and aside from that, she is also the organ donor of her daughter. Liver transplant is a complicated procedure which requires several laboratory workups pre and post operation and they have to stay in India for 3 to 6 months after the procedure for intensive treatment and monitoring. As mentioned, Zaff requires lifetime care after she receives a part of her mom’s liver so they will be needing financial help to get through this. Right now they are running out of funds and the operation was not even done yet. I am writing this in behalf of my friend, Zaff’s mother, as she is presently caught up in single-handedly taking care of her daughter in India.

With the help of the good samaritans from all over the world, they are now a few steps away from the operation. Let us offer them our fervent prayer that healing may be bestowed upon then and that they may endure this difficult circumstance and live in peace without having to worry of what will happen tomorrow. With God, nothing is impossible (Matthew 19:16-30). Few months from now, Zaff will be living like how all children should do, carefree and full of joy and hope.
