For my birthday, I decided to fundraise for an NGO I volunteered in during the summer: Women's Education and Economic Development Society, based in the village of Mangadu, India.
WEEDS is a grassroot NGO for the local community by the local community, and its key positions are occupied by the women themselves. As the name suggests, the NGO deals with women empowerment.
This they do by: 1, capacity building and vocational training for women; 2, training women to acquire entrepreneurial skills, find a job, sustainably improve their financial condition; 3, educating on human rights; 4, health education; 5, training women to take part in local politics; 6, sexual harassment awareness programs, and sensibilization programs for men.
Women's issues being often multi-dimensional, WEEDS also tackles factors that contribute to the problem, by: promoting dalit (untouchable) and adivasi (indigenous) people rights; empowering the youth and help school drop-outs; implementing sanitation infrastructure; family counseling.
WEEDS has had a big impact in the Mangadu area for lots of women, children, households, schools, and the community as a whole. Many great projects for the future, however, are still in the making and need financing, which is why I am asking you all to pinch in a little donation. Even the smallest amount of money can make a meaningful difference for the local community in Mangadu and the nearby villages where WEEDS also operates.
Thank you all for your attention! :)
