Campaign Story
I am Mark Bryant Tan from Manila, Philippines. My wife, Jenng, has been at the High Risk Pregnancy Unit (HRPU) of St. Luke's Global City since August 22, 2019 due to complicated pregnancy (infection-related), short cervix with less than 1cm functional length, and pre-term labor. She was also diagnosed with gestational diabetes (insulin-requiring). Our unborn baby girl was just 22wks when my wife was admitted. The contractions are becoming more regular the past few days and the heart rate of our baby is, at times, dipping (lowest recorded was 54). The risk for pre-term delivery has increased. Latest ultrasound also showed that our baby's size and weight are below ideal for her gestational age. The medical team has taken measures to manage all. The confinement, tests and interventions caused us to spend significant amount of money the past 2 months, hitting our savings big time. We did not expect Jenng to be confined until our daughter reaches 36 weeks.
What happened last December 2018 was painful. We didn't know my wife was pregnant. We have not been very careful and we did not really pay attention to the signs. We failed to distinguish labor pain from menstrual pain. It was heartbreaking.
We will not let it happen this time. We will do everything we can to make our baby live and ensure the quality of her life (no brain defects or severe impairments).
We are exhausting all means to raise the funds we still need to prevent pre-term delivery and ensure that our baby will not be at risk of brain bleeding, digestive tract infection and other impairments. If early delivery will still be inevitable despite all medical interventions, our baby will be admitted at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) until she's well and stable. But it is both ideal and less financially taxing if she stays and develops inside my wife's womb. We have received help from relatives and friends but we are still far from the amount required for another 5-6 weeks of confinement at the HRPU - 36th to 37th week of my wife's pregnancy (November 28-December 2).
It has been physically, emotionally and financially draining but we have to be strong for our baby. We have so much love to give to her. She's our answered prayer.
We will be forever grateful for whatever amount we will receive for our dearest Van.
