We’re raising funds for the Casa San Danielito project to help disabled people living in poor areas

What is this about?

“Case San Danielito" (San Danielito houses) provide a home for 26 boys/girls with physical and/or mental problems between 5 and 27 year-old..

The project is located in the mission of the Operation Mato Grosso (OMG) in San Luis, a small village in the Cordillera of the Andes, a very poor area at approximately 3000 mt altitude (you can found in the map at https://goo.gl/4C3jn0).

"Case San Danielito" helps the poor twice. It helps the persons with disabilities, giving them proper living conditions and hopes for a better future. But it also helps their families, who often live in very difficult conditions.

Why do we care about this?

We learned about the San Danielito project from Daniele and Nicoletta, who have been working at the "Case" since 2005, totally for free. With my wife we were immediately fascinated by the capacity of this project to make the world a better place. Just by reading their letters, we could appreciate the energy and desire of Nicoletta and Daniele to help the poor and consider the guests of the house as their new family.

Daniele and Nicoletta are carrying out various activities to help children overcome at least part of their limitations. They have set up a vegetable garden, activities with small farm animals, music, computers, school. This beyond medical treatments like physiotherapies, regular doctor’s visits and, when needed, assistance in receiving surgical operations.

Some days ago, we presented this project to our two kids. At the beginning it was not easy for them to understand what the project was about. After looking at the pictures and reading the letters from Nicoletta and Daniele, however, we gradually manage to help them figuring out what it means being a person with disability in a poor country, where even the more basic services are missing. This raised in them the desire to do something to support the project and to raise awareness about it. We could not agree more, and so we are here not only to ask for your financial support, but also to spread the word about this great project.

How will the money be spent?

San Danielito needs specialised staff to properly take care of the guests. The money raised through your support is intended to finance the training and living expenses of the staff, who often comes from the same poor areas where the guests of San Danielito used to live. It will also be used to help expand the activities of the center.

All the boys and girls can stay at the house completely for free.The mission is supported financially by the work of the OMG volunteers in Italy (who transfers all the money gained with community work to the missions in South America) and from occasional donations of people that got passionated and moved about their job.
