My Wife's Miscarriages History
August 2012 when I and my wife found out that she's pregnant, soon to be mother of triplets, but everything changed after two months. October 2012, she had her 1st miscarriage. She had to undergo D&C or Dilation and Curettage in medical term, in layman's term Raspa.
March 2013 my wife got pregnant again for the second time. To my surprise it is a twin. We were both excited. We prayed that this time everything will be fine. May 2013 when she felt something that we wouldn't want to happen, she was bleeding again.
It took us a year to have the courage to try it again. October 2014 for the third time she got pregnant, we felt mixed emotions. Nightmares do come true, she bled again, we were advised to have her undergo D&C.
We felt so depressed we know it's not going to be an easy battle. But with the help of our God, He will provide.
March 2015 We found out she has APAS or Antiphospholipid Antibody Disorder. It is one of the most common causes of recurrent miscarriages.
APAS is just one out of the 5 categories of Immuno-Reproductive disorders.
There are five categories of immune problems in pregnancy, often occurring together in combination:
- The couple’s tissue is too compatible; the woman’s body considers her placenta foreign with her immune system activating against the baby
- Blood clotting problems like antiphospholipid antibody syndrome or APAS
- An immune reaction to the baby usually indicated by a positive ANA (anti-nuclear antibody) test
- The couple produces antibodies to sperm which immobilize and destroy them on contact
- Certain white blood cells are over active like the NKs or natural killer cells.
The doctor will determine the immune problem condition based on lab tests for the 5 categories mentioned and treatments will be based on the particular category. My wife was diagnosed with Categories 1 , 2 , and 5.
We spent 48,000php for this lab tests alone.
And it would costs us more to support her medication prior to conceiving and once she gets pregnant.
Before she can get pregnant we need to address her category 1 and 5 disorder thru LIT.
LIT or Lymphocyte Immunization Therapy. LIT, according to www.repro-med.net is procedure whereby white blood cells from the prospective father are injected into the skin of the prospective mother.
According to the website, this is to “allow immune recognition of fetal tissues under circumstances that identify embryonic tissues whether they be the product of maternal or paternal genetic programming as friend. Failure to recognize embryonic tissues leads to insufficient development of tolerance mechanisms and, by extension, a decrease in the generation of tolerance-producing T regulatory cells. LIT may augment the development of tolerance possibly by increasing the numbers and appropriate distribution of T regulatory cells.
My wife needs 4 sessions of LIT and each session would costs 16,000php to 21,000php. That means after the sessions she needs to have lab test again to check if she's ok with category 1 already.
She needs to have IVIG to address her category 5 disorder this means 80,000php or intralipid therapy that costs 10,000php per session.
Once she's ready and got pregnant. She needs to inject heparin every day that costs 3000php per vial good for 3 to 5 days depends on the dosage.
She needs to take other oral medicines as well like folic acids, milk with live microorganisms that costs 3k per can and others.
Like any other husband and wife. We are dreaming of our own family as well. Im not earning that much to support her pregnancy with this kind of medical condition, a not so ordinary pregnancy. We need to save money first to get armed to save our future baby's life. We are trying to reach 700,000php to 1M before my wife and I turn 34yo.
We will highly appreciate every peso you can donate. Thank you and Godbless.
