Volunteering and Leadership

About me:

         My name is Allyson, I'm currently a first time college student studying Nursing at a University. I am 20 years old as well as the youngest of 3 children. For about 3 of the 4 years I spent in highschool me and my family were homeless. We lived in a motel for about 2 years, before my mom and I moved to a different state to find work. My mom was blessed enough to find a job, and has been working there for almost 3 years now. We still struggle from month to month, but it's better than what it used to be, at least we have a place to stay and food to eat. Having been homeless and dependent upon others for help, I would love to help those who are also trying to overcome their own difficulties.   

The Cause:

         I'm currently raising money to fund a Volunteering trip to Cambodia. The money donated will go towards travel expenses e.g., plane tickets, the cost of the program, insurance, visa, and passport. As well as immunization shots that are required. During this trip I will be helping underprivileged communities living in rural areas of the country. The service projects we will be participating in is teaching English to the locals and building homes in the community.

         One of the main reasons why we will be teaching English is with hopes of improving the lives of individuals within the community. In Cambodia the people with the best jobs are also the people who understand and speak English. To help the children and families within the various underprivileged locations in the country, not only acquire a good paying job, but also help them live better lives, we will dedicate our time and efforts to teaching them to the best of our abilities.

Why you should get involved:

         More people should get involved with helping improve the overall wellbeing of the world,because we are all human. Everyone deserves to have a chance to live their lives to the fullest and be the best they can be. A lot of people today often take for granted the things we are able to do, due to living in a developed country, however many people in undeveloped countries don't have most of the things we have.

         So if there is some way to help these people improve their lives, and the lives of their children, or future children then why not do it? If you are able and willing to share your resources with others then why not give? The ones who receive the most are not those who are being helped, but those who are doing the helping.
