Volunteer Costa Rica

 I need help raising money to volunteer in Costa Rica in the Summer of 2015. Anything and everything helps!

Who am I & what am I up to?

Hi there, my name is Shea Strifler. I am a junior at Stephen F. Austin State University. I am fortunate enough to have the opportunity to be a part of a program called EDventure. I have the chance to visit Costa Rica and do some amazing volunteer work. It is a 21 day volunteer program were we will be teaching, building, and protecting the local wildlife. We will be teaching the local school children English, while also educating local schools and visiting travelers about why the wildlife needs protection and how their habitat can be protected. The building portion comes from working at a wildlife refuge, where we will repair shelters, clean cages, build fences, and much more. Along with teaching and building, a major part of the program is protecting and caring for the animals in the refuge. I will be working hands on with the shelter trainers providing nutrition and learning how to handle these beautiful creatures.

Why this is important to me . . .

This is an amazing opportunity for me because the amount of knowledge that I would gain would be priceless, and something that I could not learn from a book. My dream for the future is to do conservation work. This opportunity provides me with the chance to see if this is what I really want for my future. It is also a once and a life time experience that would leave me with unforgettable experiences and memories.

What I need & What you get:

The EDventure program costs $3500. This does not include a passport, travelers insurance (mandatory), and airfare. With those costs and a couple other things, I estimate the trip costing at or a little over $5,000. That is why donations are so important for making this dream come true.
