VISIT MALTA ALIVE 24 Cycling Challenge for Cancer research

The Alive Charity Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation funded by volunteer donations and contributions. It is the first foundation in Malta set up to raise funds to support Medical Research Projects in Malta in the field of Cancer.

The foundation believes that whereas there are numerous local initiatives to support cancer patients and their immediate families while receiving treatment, research remains the most essential backbone and an important pre-requisite. Research helps ensure that treatment is timely, the most effective possible and followed up with the right rehabilitation to maintain and restore patients’ physical and emotional well-being. Ongoing Cancer Research projects aim to address three key aspects of Cancer: Early detection, Selection of the best treatment programmes, and Patient support and rehabilitation.

Since the inception of the ALIVE Charity Foundation in 2013, through the support of various organisations, corporates and the Maltese community at large, a total of €820,000 have been raised and donated towards this cause. These include €135,000 towards breast cancer research, €170,000 towards children’s cancer research and €80,000 towards a children’s recreational area within Sir Anthony Mamo Oncology Centre. Between 2019 and 2021, the sum of €227,000 was donated to the University of Malta to support seven cancer research projects, through funding of PhD scholarships. Funds donated during the 2022 and 2023 campaigns amount to €210,000.
