VIHAAN - Slum Development Programme
I am raising funds for Vihaan School, an NGO working with children in an impoverished area in Jaipur.
Vihaan is an autonomous Non Governmental Organisation founded in 1993 in Jaipur, India. Its goal is to work for child development and education by providing early stimulation, care, and learning experiences to children so they will develop into healthy, happy and well equipped individuals and maximize their opportunities for overall development.
Though the stunning Pink City of Jaipur is considered a jewel in the crown of Rajasthan, it has a darker side. It has a sizeable number of impoverished slums. Life in these communities is unbelievably hard, but by supporting this well established NGO you can help make a difference to the lives of people.
The Slum Development Programme was initiated in the Sitampuri Slum in April 2006. Their mission is to provide opportunities for overall development to those belonging to the most vulnerable and deprived sections of society. The school provides a happy, stimulating environment to children and young people, with organised activity days and vocational training. Unfortunately, due to lack of funding, many of these activities have had to be withdrawn, classrooms have been lost and unless advequate funds can be raised the school may be forced to close altogether.
As one of many volunteers at the school, I have seen what a difference this centre makes to the lives of young people. I have seen the fantastic work the school does and what a happy environment this is for children in the slums. Every effort is being made to ensure that their mission can continue. Please donate what you can to ensure the preservation of this remarkable place. Thank you.
