This summer I am going to Vietnam to work in an orphanage in the Northern region. The orphanage is an NGO and within a monestry called Bo De Pagoda and is run by Buddhist monks. It has over 100 children in the orphanage and 30 elderly homeless people with various disabilities and some are HIV positive. The project is highly under resourced and understaffed and with my medical background, I hope to use these skills whenever possible and put together some packages to help to do so. I plan to gather donations for the children before I leave to give them clothes and basic toys that they may not have access to currently. As the orphanage is under staffed, any hands on help is needed and I hope to provide this and bring so new ideas that could help. The project is very unstructured and so there is the scope to make a genuine difference and be able to continue to help beyond my 3 weeks in the orphanage. I feel very honoured to have this opportunity and any donations are very gretefully received.
