Kedarnath (Uttarakhand) has a Vital Place & Role in Hindu Mythology
The terrible magnitude of nature's fury in Uttarakhand unfolded on Wednesday as the death toll rose to 150 with fears that it may go up substantially as large parts remained under water while hundreds of houses and buildings lay in ruins.
Flashfloods, cloudbursts and subsequent landslips have claimed many lives. A huge number of pilgrims totalling 71,440, who were bound for the Himalayan shrines of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri are stranded in Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Uttarkashi districts with the famous char dham yatra still suspended due to massive damage to the road network.
