“BE THE STRENGTH FOR OUR STRONG MOTHER”

Meet our mother Joyce. A single mom at the age of 54. A strong woman who almost all her life single-handedly raised her children and fought for their sustainability.

She graduated from the University of the Philippines as a Journalist while her husband was an army man. With her degree, she worked hard as an employee in our third world country but not earning enough to escape with her children from an irresponsible, abusive and philandering of a husband. At the onset of her struggle in a failing marriage, she looked for opportunities elsewhere until she got one abroad as an English Teacher far and alone, forced to leave us behindwith our father. She had one goal in her mind – to earn goal and save enough, come home and be able to liberate her children and continue raising them herself.

After 6 years she did come home for good and had since been raising her children on her own. But even now that she’s homed, ageing as she is, she still needed to continue working to make ends meet while resolving the tribulations and challenges of being a single mother. In spite of these, she’s managed to always make sure there is food on the table.

A year ago, yet another storm had hit her and our family when she started experiencing pain in her lower abdomen which she would experience repeatedly every now and then throughout the day. She began having periods with uncontrollable bleeding which is unnatural for her age. For the longest time she held on to those excruciating pains, self-diagnosing and medicating herself and refusing to go to hospital checkups, and not wanting to be a burden to her kids.

About two months ago, the pain eventually became unbearable for her that she finally agreed to have herself checked.

It was found, from her initial TVUS that she had myoma that was causing her uterus to be anteverted. But just as we thought that was the only case, her doctor already suspected to be far worse – cancer.

Last month, on the 25th of March 2019, she underwent surgery for total abdominal hysterectomy including the removal of the right ovary and fallopian tube. The procedure was all the more complicated by the need to cut off a segment of her small intestine where the tumor had already spread and had become attached to the uterine canal. Now being a strong woman as she is, she is speedily recovering from her surgery, but her battle is far from over.

The biopsy report came back two weeks after and it was confirmed what we dreaded the most. She is now diagnosed with a High-grade Endometrioid Carcinoma Stage 3 (early stages of Stage 4, according to her oncologist) considering that results described it as High Grade Serous Carcinoma and Malignant Mixed Mullerian tumor. The numerous cysts which the doctors opted not to remove as she will just bleed to death, are now hyperactively spreading to parts of the small intestine and soon enough, possibly to the other organs in her body.

Doctors wanted to do immediate Chemo Therapy not later than this month of April 2019. They are looking to have 6 cycles of treatment with each cycle amounting to about P150,000.00 (one hundred fifty thousand pesos) or more should complications occur.

However, hardly recovering fromexpenses for the surgery and hospital bills which reached over P250,000.00 (two hundred thousand pesos) with, as of date, over a P150,000.00 (a hundred fifty thousand pesos) in debts, my family,is now looking for alternative ways andtreatment, and hoping that going into Chemo Therapy would be the last resort. We know we will still be facing a huge cost of expenses for other kinds of treatments, let alone the uncertainties it would bring her for the treatments.

Time is running out for her and each day that passes that she does not get treatment her cancer is spreading and her condition getting worse. Each day is a day closer to us losing her.

This once strong single mother who has faced and conquered the fiercest adversities life has to offer her is now turning to other people for strength.

Through your humble donation, you can stand with us and stand with her. Though we know there is no such thing as a big and small donation, know that any amount you are able to give means you are taking part in helping save her life.

Be the strength for this strong woman.

Thank you.

May God bless you as you become a channel of blessing as well.
