Hello friends.

My name’s Leonid Greenfield, I’m an ordinary person from Israel.

You probably know that we have a great climate here and it`s warm throughout the year. But not everyone knows, that due to the warm climate, there are a lot of homeless cats here. The government does a lot to reduce their population by sterilizing them, but just not enough, and eventually, control over their population is lost.

There are people who help such cats and since 2011 I have become one of them.

In order for the rescued animals to be safe and have roof over heads, I especially rented a 120 sq.m. house away from the cities with abandoned backyard.

At the moment I have 34 cats living indoor including 22 cats with disabilities. These are animals with neurological diseases, kidney diseases, blind animals, animals with 3 legs, including one paralyzed cat. In the backyard I have 12 cats and one large stray dog with a sad story. Unfortunately, there is a lack of people willing to help animals, and the number of the animals I keep is constantly growing due to diseases and the human factor.

In addition, I feed about 140 stray cats in several inaccessible areas where there are no residential buildings and cats cannot survive on their own.

Unfortunately, people like me don't have any support here, including support from the government

Therefore, I can only rely on myself, I have no other choice. I feed and treat rescued animals with my own costs.

I work at two jobs, including hard one.

Since the COVID19 pandemic began in my country, I lost my extra job and my main job’s salary has been reduced by 15%, and this has worsened an already difficult and uncontrolled situation. So I can’t handle the financial burden anymore

I’ve taken several loans in order to pay off the debt to veterinary clinic and to pay rent. I'm trying to give the poor cats a chance to stay alive and grow old in peace, safety.

My current expenses are as follows:

- About 6,000 shekels ($1,648) a month for essential things like cat food (including therapeutic feed), 280 kg litter for indoor, flea/worm treatments etc., without veterinary care.

- Rent is 3,000 shekels ($824) a month.

My current salary is 5,200 shekels ($1,429), and an overdraft in my bank account is 10,200.00 shekels ($2,803). As a result, I can’t provide emergency medical care to an animal in need. I can't even afford sterilization and vaccination procedures that are so necessary in our cruel world. The first priority now is to support pets that I currently have, and continue to provide the roof over their heads. For now, I am forced to borrow cat food, and my current debt for it 1,200 shekels (approx. $360).

There are no public shelters and there is no government support for private shelters. There is also no way for people with similar stories to seek any help. Most of my fellow citizens do not care about the homeless cats. This is the reason I have so many pets. And because of their physical defects, their chances of being adopted are very low. This is a problem that currently has no solution.

I do not want to be someone who lets down the disabled animals.

Below is a short video immediately after arriving at the rental house and you can see my cats here:

I would be happy to welcome you to the cat house at a suitable time for you, so that you can see everything your own eyes and make sure the situation is dramatic.

I am writing to you because I’m desperate. I cannot figure out what other choices I have and who to ask for help. Please help me and my animals.

If someone wants to help me, there are several options:

1) you can call the Toran veterinary hospital in Petah-Tiqwa and donate the required amount to my account there:

Phone: 9 723-923-2020

ID: 324692185 or my cell phone 054-804-5541

2) donate to my PayPal account: [email protected]

3) donate to reduce the debt in the pet food store:

Phone: +97-252-251-7646

Dear friends, if someone wants to visit our cat house or call me on the phone, I ask you to write to me first, because I can't hear and I use cochlear implant, so it is very difficult for me to talk by phone.

I apologize for any inconvenience during your reading my letter that may cause.

Please share if possible.

Thank you anyway.

Sincerely,

Leonid

  • It’s not a lot but I hope it helps! You’re doing such a wonderful thing for so many innocent creatures. There should be more people like you in the world.
