Campaign Story
Family of 8 living in extreme poverty in the slums of Bangkok, in an unstable and unsafe family home - can you please help?
Mum and dad both work 12 hours days, 6 days per week, for as little as 5,000 Baht in total per month, supporting themselves, 5 school aged children and a disabled grandmother. Mum and dad have taken in an extended family member's child who has been abandoned and doing their best in the circumstances they are faced with.
Mercy Centre (mercycentre.org) has included the family in their sponsor-a-child program to assist in covering educational costs for the children, to provide some basic financial relief. However it quickly became apparent that the family home has deteriorated to an unstable and unsafe condition, requiring urgent attention. The family are in desperate need of more help, we need your help!
Mercy Centre has now obtained 2 written quotes ranging from 300,000 Baht to 543,000 Baht to demolish and rebuild the family home, and has found the lower quote suitable. The home is beyond any repair due to the significant period of deterioration, with rotting timber and termites, and the floor dipping about 1 foot in the middle.
Any additional funds will be used to provide basic essentials for the family, such as beds, mattresses, fridge, washing machine, cooking facilities etc. Where the funds exceed the target sufficiently, Mercy will use funds to repair other family homes in the slum communities of Bangkok.
300,000 Baht is equivalent to:
- $6,700 GBP
- $9,600 USD
- $12,400 AUD
Please help if you can, share with your friends - any donation is appreciated no matter how small.
IMPORTANT: The target dated was extended on 27th April 2018 to 30 May 2018 due to target not being reached. If insufficient funds are raised, the money will be distributed directly to the family to allow them to seek alternative accommodation, pay for eductaional costs for the 5 school aged children, medical food, and many other basic essentials they are currently without. Any people who donated prior to the 27 April, prior to this update, may seek a refund of their donation if they don't want it to go to the family.
We appreciate your generosity and will provide photos at the end of this campaign.

Thanks Lisa, your donation goes a long way to building this home. We aim to start building it at the end of April (funding permitting) and finish it Mid-June - you are welcome to join the opening with the family :)))
