A stent for my mother

My name is Beatriz Chavarri Lecuna, I live in Venezuela and am asking for help in order to cover the medical expenses of my mother, Norma Lecuna de Chavarri (73) who, last September 14, suffered an ST Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) with atrioventricular block. On September 23 she received a cardiac catheterization resulting in a diagnosis of Chronic Ischemic Cardiopathy and Obstructive Coronary Disease affecting three blood vessels.

During the above mentioned catheterization two non-medicated Coflexus stents were placed with the right coronary artery (RCA) overlapping the posterior interventricular. However, during her last cardiological check-up from November 7, we were told she would eventually need a new catheterization and stent implant. Prior to that, she would need to get an echocardiogram and an exercise stress test in order to determine the stent type required.

Unfortunately, we cannot afford the necessary medical materials and clinical costs to carry out this procedure. For this reason, I appeal to your collaboration and solidarity in order to help my mom, so she can be with us for many years to come, as well as to bring her a better quality of life.

My mom underwent a stress test at the Centro Médico Docente Los Altos, Colinas de Carrizal. The test was inconclusive due to a claudication of the lower limbs. We are currently waiting on new studies (echocardiogram and dobutamine stress echocardiogram) in order to determine the type of stent to be inserted, as well as its urgency.

Update from Nov-22

My mother underwent to a transthoracic echocardiogram and a dobutamine stress echocardiogram.

The following are the results of those tests:

1. Ischemic cardiopathy of three vessels due to mild hypokinesia at the anterior, medium and apical septum, mild hypokinesia at the anterior, medium and apical level, mild hypokinesia at the lateral, medium and apical level, and severe hypokinesia at the medial and inferodorsal level.
2. Moderately depressed systolic dysfunction, with an EF of 40%.
3. Grade I diastolic dysfunction.
4. Mild dilation of the left atrium.
5. Mild mitral insufficiency.
6. Mild tricuspid insufficiency.
7. Mild pulmonary arterial hypertension.

We received the medical expenses quote for the cardiac catheterization with angioplasty and stent placement for my mom. The total amount is BsS 1,500,636.59 equivalent to approx. USD 5,000.
