Over the course of 6 months last year myself and with the help of the residents, business owners and visitors of the islands of Perhentian, Langkawi, Penang (Malaysia) and Bali (Indonesia) organized beach clean ups where we try to collect as much plastic, glass and nylon net from the beaches and from the sea/ocean floor around us.
By dedicating only few hours a day we managed to get a little bit over 550 Kilos of trash off the land and send them into the nearest area where it can be sorted and when possible re-cycled. I myself is a strong believer in making the world a better place and its only fair because we owe as much to our beautiful blue planet, as Mahatma Gandhi said "Be the change you want to see in the world", it really can be as simple as picking up a piece of trash or as little as 1 dollar towards a good cause.
This year with the help of the people around and good Samaritans on GoFundMe, we can take it one step further. To organize teams over 6 days a week to collect and sort whatever we can to reach our goal of plastic free beaches and oceans.
* THE OBJECTIVE OF FUNDS *
To raise awareness and to be willing to contribute an incentive is always appreciated even if it's as simple as a meal after or a place to sleep in afterwards. Being able to provide any of those can be a big help towards our goal. And because our work & contribution will around South East Asia mainly the food & accommodations cost are not so high, the idea of sponsoring someone who's already traveling works as you don't need to bring people anywhere but simply use whoever is around and willing to spend their day helping us achieve our goal.
Based on my personal experience the cost of 1 person for a day can be between 10-20$ that includes food, drinking water and sometimes accommodation. While clean-up Divers take a bit more to organize because the equipment we need to do such dives are a bit pricey, most of the people who work as divers are always willing to participate because they know first hand the effect that plastic and drifted trash has on the ocean's Eco-system.
* THE PROJECT *
On an average of 15$ x 10 participants. 150$ a day we would be able to collect at least 30-40 Kilos from the selected area. And our mission will start as soon as we have enough to go 10 days (approx. 1500$)
* BE THE CHANGE *
There's no such thing as a small donation, every penny can be used towards achieving our goal and your support doesn't only mean the world to us, but also a big step towards the greater good.
* WATCH US MAKE A CHANGE *
Along the way of our mission there will be a documentation of everything we do through an instagram page that will be created solely to share our achievements and hopefully one day we could make a documentary that shows the work we have done and possibly help us even go further more in.
* PARTICIPATE *
Everyone is welcome to leave their print behind. Donating is not the only way to participate in this mission, so if you're willing and able to dedicate your time and energy to help us anywhere we are drop your info and will get in touch with you as soon as possible.
