I am 16 years old student from Lithuania.
I have been selected to participate in the UWC Short Course, “Together for Development”, to be held at the Waterford Kamhlaba United World College in Swaziland between December 29, 2017 and January 13, 2018. Selection to the Short Course was highly competitive and I strongly believe that by participating in the Short Course, I can acquire knowledge and leadership skills to lead developmental and other social initiatives in the future. Since 1987 UWC Short Courses have had a great impact on students all across the globe. The chance to discuss issues ranging from conflict resolution to international understanding with like-minded individuals from all over the world at that critical age has greatly expanded their social and political awareness. It has also enabled them to reflect on how they can make a difference to their community, upon their return as well as in the longer term. For many participants, the three weeks represent a transformative period during which they gain clarity on their values, priorities and ambitions, and develop skills, confidence and a global network that helps them to pursue these. “Together for Development” will focus on the key challenges related to sustainable development in this day and age. The participants will learn about the most pressing issues through a wide range of experiential learning opportunities, get to work alongside a local community to understand the realities on the ground, and go through a project accelerator that equips them with the skills to start their own social action projects. The participation fee for each participant is 750 EUR. Participants are also expected to cover the costs of transportation to and from Johannesburg on their own. Any assistance you can give me in making my participation in “Together for Development” possible will be greatly appreciated. Iwill do my best to change the world - to make it a better place to live for everyone.
