Campaign Story
On behalf of the HART community Lautoka I would ask you to give a donation to help raise $10,000 to build the kids a classroom.
The above photo is of Pecelli, he is a cheeky 3 year old and one of 43 children who attend kindergarten within the HART Community in Fiji for only 3 hours a day as they don't have a classroom.
Currently the kindy class borrows a community hall for those few hours so they can learn the basic knowledge that will prepare them for school. The hall has wire in place of windows, 1 black board and some benches, chairs, a table and floor mats for class. All equipment and supplies must be set up every morning at 8am and packed up at 11am to leave the hall as they found it. This is not enough time to learn the important basic knowledge to begin their lives.
Unfortunately not everyone has the luxury of basic education, but the 2 kindy teachers & the sole HART community field worker are trying their best to provide it. I would like to ask for help on behalf of them.
The Hart community, (Housing Assistance and Relief Trust) in Lautoka is a Fijian community of approximately 400 tenants made up of disadvantaged single mums and their children now living there in a settlement that aims to empower them to live a better life. Lives affected by mental or physical abuse and unfortunate circumstances have led the women to HART.
During the time I spent here in July volunteering at the kindergarten and village, it became apparent to me that despite the major efforts of field worker & counsellor Mereani Camailakeba to help up-skill these women and nurture the children to build better lives, a helping hand is needed, but not asked for.
Despite their situation, the Fijian people in this community are completely welcoming, optimistic and generous. Beginning with basic education is the first step to leading a life with opportunity, in order to deliver basic education the kids need a classroom of their own.
About: HART was established in 1970 by the Fiji Council of Churches. It is a charitable organisation that was initially formed to provide shelter for the destitute in Fiji. Today the organisation provides other support and services annually to about 800 families of mainly women and children who have little or no regular source of income and rely on the department of Social Welfare for financial assistance. The services such as skill workshops provided are designed to empower individuals to become resourceful and productive in order to secure a better life.
Thank you so very much for your donation and help in providing the education these children deserve!!

I have fond memories of Lautoka, from a number of visits I made there as a kid. Makes me sad this is required, so happy to help. Good luck with the project.
