The Kindness Method

Hello everyone :)

My name is Kate and, as a part of a school initiative and a personal yearning to help and support those suffering from the effects of COVID-19, I've decided to start up my own funding page. If all goes according to plan, 100% of the proceeds received will be split between:

1. Compliments of the House, a food distribution charity that directly delivers food for those in need (https://complimentsofthehouse.org/)
2. Refuge, an organisation providing support for women and children that are affected by domestic abuse (https://campaign.refuge.org.uk/page/58366/donate/1?ea.tracking.id=EMER-landing/)
3. World Health Organisation, the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund (https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/donate)

Many of us are lucky and privileged in that we have access to financial support, food, clean water, online education, a safe home and so many more things. I think that, during times of crisis, it is only natural to focus on taking care of ourselves, but it is important to remember that there are people out there who will experience the damage of flawed healthcare systems and a failing economy to a much greater extent and that, especially during a crisis, we must come together as a community and make sure everyone is safe, healthy and quite simply - ok. The capacity for empathy is intrinsic, it is inborn. I want to show the world the power of social media - the impact of coming together and fighting for something bigger and better. If you have anything at all to spare, please donate - it could be any amount. If not, I beg you to at least take the time to inform others of/share this page with as many people as you can. Domestic violence rates have surged to painstakingly high levels. Refuge, the earlier mentioned charity of choice, has reported a 700% increase in calls to its hotline in a single day. In China'a Hubei province, domestic violence reports to the police more than tripled in one country during the lockdown in February.

After years of worldwide efforts in supporting vulnerable communities and helping families get the opportunity for a stable income, as well as allowing more children to have have access to education, in a mere three months, an estimated two billion people are now at risk of poverty. For the first time since 1998, the World Bank stated, global poverty rates are forecast to rise.

Since the outbreak, there has been a dramatic increase in food bank reliance. However, with the new measurements in place and stocks consistently remaining depleted, many food banks have been forced to close. The numbers of staff members have also plummeted, as a result of the workforce being so predominantly volunteer-based.
