Help us rebuild our orphanage and continue to provide food, shelter and education for children.
My name is Jean, my wife Thuy and I have founded a small orphanage, House of Affection, in Vietnam and we've been looking after 40 children for over 2 decades. We've built a travel agency and homestay operation alongside the orphanage and the income from these operations were able to fund the orphanage, unfortunately COVID-19 would change all that...
2020 was a very challenging year for us, in addiction to COVID-19 which evaporated our income from the travel agency/homestay operation, we also saw 13 typhoons, 6 of which and a severe flood would end up damaging 3 of our homestay houses as well as wiping out the main structure of the orphanage.
We are in desperate need of funding to rebuild…Thuy and I have already sold our personal apartment and a structure on the beach, but it’s not enough to provide food, shelter and education for 40 children.
No amount is too small, please help us to continue to provide for the children at The House of Affection!
About The House of Affection:
The House of Affection was founded by Thuy and Jean Garcia in Hue, Vietnam in July, 2012. The work of taking care of orphans has started back in 1999 after the epic flood of November, 1999 but we have not formally registered our organization until 2012. Once the news spread, other orphans and abandoned children were sent to us as well. Today 40 children live in the The House of Affection and under our direct guardianship.
We are not an orphanage in the traditional sense. Yes we take in children who have lost both parents or are abandoned, however, we don’t stop supporting them once they reach 18 years old. Both Thuy and I believe that we need to give them the best possible education so that they can have a brighter future and can return and help more children. For 17 years, we took care of them in a self-sufficient way through the income of our travel agency and homestay business but COVID-19 would change all that…
In addition, The House of Affection is also in charge of the reintegration and the education program for Sampanier children. Sampaniers are former lake tribes who live on boats. A small association in France, Les Sampaniers du Vietnam, is responsible for finding sponsors. For this program, we built 160 houses, helped build 2 kindergartens, a primary school and a college. With the help of volunteers from major French and American schools, we were able to house and educate about 500 children.
One of our proudest achievements are the children we put through higher education. We have produced a professor of physics and chemistry, a doctor, an agriculture engineer, an architect, a graduate in French, a master’s degree graduate in economics, to name a few.
