The Final Beam of Hope: Mark’s Bone Marrow Transplant

Some of you may know that my brother, Mark Adrian, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemiaon May last year. After a very long time of being admitted in the hospital, he was discharged and was declared cancer-free. The whole family was happy and thankful for everything.

But after 7 months of being cancer-free, during his monthly check-up, we were told that his leukemia has relapsed. At first, I was still in denial. Saying that the lab finding may just be wrong or something else was wrong. I wouldn't admit it until he was needed to undergo chemotherapy again. My world crashed once more.

He is in the hospital now. Aside from his chemotherapy, he is still undergoing different lab tests, CT scans, blood transfusions and much more. The hospital bill has reached a hundred thousand and right now we are still finding ways to pay for the bill and his medicine. Our whole family is on our knees at this moment. We don't know where to go anymore. But we can't give up. We won't give up on Mark. We were told by his doctors that the best option right now is to have a bone marrow transplant. The transplant alone would cost us millions and we still have the pre- and post-care. We were told by his doctors that Mark would have to stay in the hospital for a month after the procedure. All of this would cost us a fortune.

Being the donor, I would not think twice if it would mean that my brother has a better chance at life after the procedure. But we're not rich. We don't have enough money for this. But this is the only way to give my brother the life this illness took away from him. My heart just sinks every time I think of it.

But despite everything that has happened, Mark is still optimistic that he will win this battle. He is fighting with every cell in his body. Despite the thin physique, the hair falling off his head, the IV lines attached to him and his colostomy bag, he is the strongest I have ever seen him be. His smile and laughter is what keeps us going.

Now, I'm knocking on your hearts once again. I would like to ask the world for help. A sister asking for the whole world to help her only brother. I know I may be nobody to some of you but my brother is the world to me.This is the final beam of hope for Mark. I hope you could help us through this.
