The Children of Chuburná Puerto need computers.

Hello everyone. Can you help? The school children of Chuburná Puerto desperately need access to new computers, to do their homework, so they can excel at their studies!

Since 2009, the Chuburná Apoyo program has been building an educational sponsorship program in the fishing village of Chuburná Puerto, at the northern tip of Yucatan in Mexico. Chuburná Apoyo matches sponsors with children. The Sponsors (through the Apoyo program) pay for school supplies, uniforms, shoes, exam and registration fees. We also, conduct local fund-raising events to pay for glasses and tutoring. We even provide toilet paper as neither the parents, nor the school can afford to provide it. With over 120 students now sponsored in the program, we need your help. Your help is needed with the purchase of new computers, so these children can have the best chance of success.

In Chuburná Puerto there is little work, other than fishing. Families are struggling with unemployment and extremely poor wages. Due to the lack of reliable employment and decent incomes, there is little chance a family can buy a computer or afford the cost of internet service. In fact, the minimum wage level mandated by the Mexican government is only $86 pesos (about $4.50 US) per day.

All the money we receive goes directly to support the children in the program. We have been blessed with the donation of a small building to use and internet service for the office but, we do not have the funds to create the computer lab these children need to excel in their studies. To this point, we have limped along with old, donated lap tops and desk tops that spend more time being repaired than they do in the lab.

With over 120 students from grade 4 through grade 12, we so want to provide them with the best opportunity they can have to get an education and make a difference in their community.

We are making a difference! Last year 17 children who graduated, were sponsored through the Apoyo program and 14 of those have been accepted to university. In fact, two of our sponsored students have become teachers and a third is graduating university with a degree in criminology and will head North to the border to help eradicate the drug cartels. Many others are pursuing degrees in other fields.

Please, can you help these children? We need to raise $100,000.00 Mexican (MX) pesos ($5,000.00 USD) and 100% of the money we receive will go directly to the purchase of at least 10 new computers for all the school children of Chuburná Puerto (sponsored or not) to use, at our office, for homework and study. These children just need the tools to make a difference in their lives, the lives of their families and the lives of everyone in the community.
