When younger, this incredibly sweet lady, Adeline, decided to go Africa because, as a nurse, she felt she was more needed there and wanted to do good, but when the war began over there in the 70's she was forced to come back.

She had to leave everything behind and lost EVERY little thing she ever owned, even a house she had built with her husband. For what I'm told, that same house was "possessed" by the government over there and it's still being used til this day. No restituition for her, they just took it. She was strong though, picked up the pieces, continued to work as a nurse and moved on to putting all her hopes into this old house next to a church, just as she always dreamed of.

That dream, unfortunately, proved to be a nightmare as the neighbours didn't want "someone like her" living next door - and since they were a pretty close community they could get away with pretty much anything.

There were a lot of insults and "go back to where you're from" and it came to a point where they even threw boiling water at her chest and her daughter's, leaving them injuried and scar(r)ed for life.

She could have lost her job over this too - which she desperately needed because her husband was severely depressed with all the war trauma - but she was so hardworking and so good at what she did that all the doctors and nurses she worked with loved her and of course, everyone understood what had happened...

We thought it would be the end of it, that it was enough suffering for one person but then she showed my her home and we could see for ourselves, yet again, that even though there's a lot of marvelous people in this world, the bad guys still win.

When her husband died in his sleep, the ambulance came and people were gathering in the street. They weren't being neighborly, no one offered her support. They saw a grieving widow, still in her nightgown and some of them had the nerve to tell her that she would be better off if she sold the house and moved out. She didn't and despite the fact she got badly ill and had to stay away for a bit, her house was made of dreams and memories so she immediatly came back when she got better.

But when she did, she couldn't believe her eyes. Her house had been broken in. No small theft. This was a "get out of here" masked with a robbery. They stole the furniture, the appliances, the windows, trashed the place around and even took the freaking FRONT DOOR! I kid you not, I took pictures and you can see the house for yourself on Google Earth. They were smart: they even stole the tiles from the roof just so the house would decay faster and they LITTER the entire place knowing that she wouldn't be able to take all that trash out, forcing her to move to the backyard. Who does that kind of thing?

Who, in their right mind, would hurt someone like that? It must have taken several people...

This was a CALCULATED hate crime and it made me furious but if you just hear her talk... She is the most adorable person, no anger or bitterness whatsoever, she just says that God has angels everywhere and they're gonna take care of her.

When asked her about the police, what they did to help that's when she looked at us in profound sadness and cried. No one cared. No one helped. No one saw a thing. She was alone. And had lost everything, once again.

We're trying to clean the house, that's the priority. We're allowed to go in and I've been able to take some of the debris but, honestly it's too much. And it's getting too deteriorated. We just don't know what to do.

We have to solve this because everytime it rains I'm afraid the house collapses so we thought about creating a fundraiser of sorts and then showing the progress just as it goes but I'm not that well versed in this type of things and we don't know how it works or even if it would work. There's so much to do in this world, you know? Let's hope for the best and see how it goes...
