Teaching Buddhist Monks in Nepal

The purpose of this trip is to volunteer teaching young monks at a Buddhist Monestary, Pema Ts'al Sakya Monastic Institute, in Pokhara Nepal, from September 2014 to January 2014. These particular monks are refugees from Tibet, with limited language abilities to communicate even in their own community. To give young monks a chance to succeed on their own, English language can be the most important tool as tears down the language barrier between monks, tourists, and community members.This is a unique trip with the simple purpose of educating young people with a tool needed for a successful future. The impact on the lives of young monks in Nepal will allow the positive teachings of Buddhism to cross borders and influence local community members. Communication is key in our world in order to expand ideas of peace, equality, and understanding. I am an ambitious, glass-half full person who enjoys sharing my positive outlook on life. This trip will allow me to use my tutoring skills to teach a language we are familiar with, but others are not. Having never travelled outside of the United States this will be a eye opening experience for me personally. Teachers live and work in the monestary, and are included in daily rituals, meals, and events. I look forward to learning a great deal about buddhism, culture in Nepal, and myself.
