Tabasamu Orphanage needs your help! – Tabasamu Waisenhaus braucht Eure Hilfe!

Hi, my name is Marco Petzoldt, I came to Africa as a volunteer to work in social projects in Uganda and now I am in an orphanage in rural Tanzania for two more weeks.

The organization I am currently working with is called "Tabasamu Childcare and Orphanage Centre" (TCC), and the orphanage director, David Joseph, is a real inspiration. David graduated from college only 3 years ago and immediately founded the orphanage in the village of Usa River, near Arusha and not far from Mount Kilimanjaro. As the video above describes, David dedicates his teaching salary to providing for the children at the orphanage. And he will just laugh it off if you talk about his “selflessness”. He does it because of how much it means to him to create a future for the children at the orphanage. He talks about the kids as the "children he's raising", and they truly are.

Also, I’ve had some chats with David and the children, and they never fail to put a smile on your face. It’s inspiring to see children who are so full of life and joy, regardless of their circumstances. And I couldn’t be more excited to go live with them, work with them, and share their passion for life. That’s why I am hoping to raise money for the orphanage and the children before I leave. Any donation is appreciated, and all proceeds from this site will go directly to the orphanage and providing for the children (buying food for their meals, paying their monthly school fees, etc.). Your contributions would mean the world to me! Even a single $1 donation can help provide dinner for an extra night when funds are low, and I promise that will be met with smiles. After all, “Tabasamu” means “smile” in Swahili!

I’ve said a lot now, that I can’t wait to see your donation. However, the chance to live with the children at Tabasamu Orphanage is on my mind every day now, from when I wake up to when I go to sleep. The most exciting part for me is that I know I’ll be working all day there for whatever the children need, for as David wrote to me in his introductory letter, “Know that you will fall into bed each night exhausted and fulfilled. In short, being a volunteer is hard work and not a humanitarian holiday."

I promise I will be giving my 110% effort for the children, and when we combine that with your financial support, I know that we can make a difference together. I know you are not coming with me on the way but your donation is much worth for the kids to smile.

Hallo, mein Name ist Marco Petzoldt. Ich bin als Freiwilliger nach Afrika gekommen, um in sozialen Projekten mitzuarbeiten. Zuerst in Uganda unterwegs gewesen, bin ich jetzt für zwei weitere Wochen in einem Waisenhaus im ländlichen Tansania.

Die Organisation, bei der ich zurzeit arbeite, heißt "Tabasamu Childcare and Orphanage Centre" (TCC, "Tabasamu Kinderbetreuung und Waisenhaus") und der Direktor, David Joseph, ist eine wahre Inspiration. David hat vor drei Jahren das College abgeschlossen und direkt im Anschluss das Waisenhaus im Dorf Usa River, nahe Arusha und nicht weit vom Kilimandscharo, gegründet. Wie das Video weiter oben zeigt, wendet David sein Gehalt als Lehrer auf, um die Kinder im Waisenhaus zu unterstützen. Und er lacht nur darüber, wenn man über seine "Selbstlosigkeit" redet. Er tut es, weil es ihm einfach viel bedeutet, den Kindern im Waisenhaus eine Zukunft zu ermöglichen. Er spricht über die Kinder als "seine Kinder, die er großzieht" - und das sind sie wirklich.

Ich hab mich natürlich auch mit David und mit den Kindern unterhalten und es gelingt ihnen jederzeit, einen zum Lachen zu bringen. Es ist begeisternd, diese Kinder zu sehen, so voller Leben und Freude - ungeachtet ihrer Lebensumstände. Und es ist einfach begeisternd, hier Zeit mit ihnen zu verbringen, mit ihnen zu arbeiten und an ihrer Lebenslust teilzuhaben. Deshalb hoffe ich, für das Waisenhaus und die Kinder Geld sammeln zu können, bevor ich wieder abreise. Jede Spende wird hoch geschätzt und jeder Erlös aus dieser Kampagne wird direkt dem Waisenhaus zugutekommen und der Unterstützung der Kinder (um Essen zu kaufen, monatliche Schulgebühren zu bezahlen, etc.). Euer Beitrag würde mir wirklich viel bedeuten! Sogar ein einziger gespendeter € kann dabei helfen, das Essen für eine weitere Nacht sicherzustellen, wenn das Geld mal knapp ist - und ich verspreche, dass das mit einem Lächeln vergolten wird! Nebenbei, "Tabasamu" bedeutet "Lächeln" auf Swahili.

Ich hab jetzt schon öfters betont, dass jede Spende dringend benötigt wird. Jedenfalls begleitet mich der Gedanke, mit den Kindern im Tabasamu Waisenhaus zu leben, jeden Tag, von früh bis spät. Die aufregendste Sache dabei ist, dass ich die ganze Zeit für das Wohl der Kinder da bin. Wie schon David in seiner Einladung an mich schrieb, kann ich hier jeden Abend in's Bett fallen - erschöpft aber doch erfüllt! Aber auch kurz gesagt, als Freiwilliger zu arbeiten ist harte Arbeit und kein Urlaub!

Ich verspreche, dass ich 110% für die Kinder gebe. Und wenn wir das mit Eurer finanziellen Unterstützung verbinden, weiß ich, dass wir gemeinsam einen Unterschied bewirken können! Ich weiß, Ihr könnt mich auf meiner Reise nicht begleiten. Aber Eure Spende ist den Kindern viel wert, um zu lächeln!
