Lynn’s Survival and Transition Fund

Hi everyone,

Firstly I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this — I have always struggled to ask for help and I particularly hate doing so during a time which is difficult to many. Nonetheless, I now need to accept that i can no longer get by without your help.

My name is Lynn Matilda and I’m a 21 year old trans woman from Ecuador. I’ve been working since the age of 15 and had to become fully self-sufficient at the age of 18, when i was kicked out of my home, thus forcing me to quit my studies so i could work full time.

The lack of emotional/financial support and distress from the situation worsened the depression I had been dealing with for a few years from having grown up in an abusive family environment and wrestling to understand and accept my identity. This situation led me to attempt to take my life in September 2018.

Ever since then I’ve been couch-surfing and trying to work as much as possible which has proven harder and harder being visibly trans in a country like Ecuador. After saving up for a while, I have just finally moved into my own space where i can openly settle into my transgender identity, however covid-19 is making it even more difficult to find work. I’ve tried to stay afloat and done all i can in order to make money but without any support network it feels like the situation is out of my hands, which makes me fear losing control over my life once again.

With this fund i hope to be able to secure housing, utilities, food and health insurance the next 6 months, as well as pay off my hospital and therapy bills. Lastly I will be using some of those funds to finance the early steps of my transition, which will help me stay safer in Ecuador.
