Surgery Funds for Vince

This is Vince, a thirteen year-old boy diagnosed with multiple disabilities. He and his older brother, Miggy are hydrocephalus survivors and both underwent VP shunting procedures (Ventriculoperitoneal shunting) in 2007 and 2009 respectively. Vince was only 2-day old when the complicated surgery was performed. The boys' medical condition made them non-functional due to cerebral palsy as a result of hydrocephalus. At 5 years old, Vince's physical state worsen as a curvature of his spine developed. Scoliosis inflicted him and because of his underlying health condition, surgery is unfeasible. Our Vince's medical condition is indeed a tough and long journey. There had been countless of routine checkups, copious laboratory tests after the surgery and in-betweens, and a flushing of his shunt was performed in 2016. These are not only unbearable but also financially draining to his parents who provided all the high-priced medical expenses, not only for Vince but for Miggy, too.

Unexpectedly, another medical problem was diagnosed for Vince. Sonographic findings reveal that he has "bilateral undescended testes", a condition when one or both testes have not passed down into the scrotal sac. A surgery is needed to move the undescended testicle. According to his doctors, which are composed of pedia surgeon, pedia neurologist, and pedia anesthesiologist, the surgery is a simple one. However, due to Vince's high risk condition, the medical team is anticipating for a complex procedure. His surgeon explained that, depending on the anatomy, he will try to save one testicle to avoid hormone injection. His being a scoliotic also adds up to further complication since it impedes the functions of his lungs. With this, he will be undergoing a very cautious surgery which calls for expertise from a medical team and an infallible hospital needs, specifically the ICU.

Vince has undergone the needed laboratory tests in preparation for the surgery. Having all the results favorable, he will probably be sent on Friday, September 2, 2022. Considering the team of medical experts and other hospitalization costs, the procedure entails a large amount of money. It is truly a difficult time for the family who is still recovering from Miggy's shunt replacement expenses in 2019. Vince's parents are unable to secure the estimated amount, thus this initiative is taken. This is going to be a fearful procedure but with all the medical trials that Vince had surpassed, we know that he can overcome this, too. Vince is certainly a SPECIAL CHILD - literally and figuratively. He's special to everyone and most specially to his parents for making them strong and faithful.
