Surgery fundraising for little Kyle

My name is Winfred Donman. My home town is in California but I live in Nairobi, Kenya. I moved to Africa 3 years ago after my husband, Emilio Donman was posted to Kenya. I'm also working in Kenya. In March 2012 we were blessed with twins, Cole and Kyle. It was the biggest moment of my life and my husband. Life has been sweet and happy before one of our kids was diagnosed with Mitochondrial Disease 8 months ago. It has brought huge unhappiness in my family.

Kyle Donman is less than 2 years old and he has developed mitochondrial disease. He has been battling the disease since he was 13 months old and has undergone one surgery which was performed at Nairobi Hospital Children’s Ward.

Mitochondrial disease is a chronic, genetic disorder that occurs when the mitochondria, which are the powerhouses of the cell, fail to produce enough energy for cell and organ function. As a result, Kyle has gastrointestinal dysmotility and intestinal failure. Additionally, he is unable to participate in certain activities because of his fatigue and his body’s inability to properly regulate his body temperature. Regardless, Kyle always seems to smile despite the struggles with his continuous health crises.

Today, Kyle is cared for by a number of specialists from Nairobi Hospital Division of Medical Genetics, Gastroenterology and Nutrition, Pediatric Surgery, Ophthalmology and Children’s Orthopedic Center.

Our kid requires one major surgery in mid Feb to try and eradicate the disease completely. He also needs some special medication for the disease. The whole amount is Ksh2,500,000 ($30,000). Please help us raise the amount.
