My Name is Lalitha Sampathi, and I'm General Secretary at the Indian Women's Organization (IWO), It is an non-profit women's organization. Me and team are working to end violence against women and build an non violence rape free in India., specifically to stop the sexually abuse on the women and young girls. We travel in 14 Indian districts, raising awareness for social change. We are motivating women from rural areas, town and cities across India in order to get more women involved in IWO team work. Our IWO work brings a positive contribution to Indian communities, making a difference in many women's lives.
We have started this project to end violence against women and to stop sexually abuse of women and young girls in India. We need your support to make our project work.
We would greatly appreciate donations towards single or multiple items you make. We are grateful for your help!
Why Is This Project So Important now?
There 40000 murders and 33000 rapes every year in India. That means a murder occurs every 15 minutes and a rape every 20 minutes. This averages over two rapes every hour, every day during the last 13 years. A total of 2,72,844 cases were reported across Indian 29 states and seven UTs in this period.
Our women are currently suffering from different forms of violence and subjugation. Some of criminals continue to brutally rape, gang rape and killing 6 year old girl to 60 year old women. Our lovely daughters are dying by insulting crime.

We are effectively stopping the rape and murders of women and young girls by reforming Indian society. And we are building rape free India, hope you will help.

How do we stop the rape and murders in in India?
A major part of the problem is that Indian women and young girls are not aware of the Indian Constitution’s fundamental rights, laws and acts protecting women. IWO activists first build an IWO local team. They teach women and young girls about the Indian constitution’s fundamental rights and how to take legal action. So far many rapists and murderers have been arrested by police thanks to IWO activities.
IWO chief leaders have monthly meetings with all IWO team members and volunteers. In these meetings women discuss how to solve different problems. Leaflets are always printed in local languages.
When women or young girls are raped by criminals, IWO activists organize a social awareness rally with masses of women in the streets and demand police action and criminals detention.
Public outcry and awareness rallies have made a huge difference by exposing people to the issue who may not be aware and an awakened cultural climate eventually arises in which crimes against women are stopped before they can happen, And the rape crime are stopping and rape culture is ending by IWO activities.

The women people of Thungathurthi
The story of Thungathurthi Village:
Thungathurthi is a large village in the Nalgonda district, Telangana State of India. Thungathurthi has a population of 8379 inhabitants of which 3727 are male and 4652 are female, according to the 2011 census. Women and young girls were suffering from gender related crime intensely there. The fear of having to pay dowry as well as the threat of sexual violence is commonplace.
Our IWO activists went to the village and created an IWO committee with 25 executive members. IWO chief leaders called all of the village women and young girls for a meeting at the government school ground one day, and informed them about laws which protect women and dowry prohibition acts. They called on women to unite under the IWO village committee.
IWO activists taught the women how to protect themselves from rapists and murderers and how to find and take legal support. The activists also told women and young girls not to go to pedhamanusulu or take a settlement from them, and that the IWO committee offers support (not just in words!) for women considering abortion due to the fear of dowry.
“Pedhamanusulu” refers to wealthier men who attempt to settle criminal charges with the victim without the case going to trial. Rapist criminals and murderers have escaped from prison and women protesting against the legal system receive bigger fines than men, which only further encourages crime.
One day, a man named Ravi raped a 19-year-old girl called Rani. Afterwards the pedhamanusulu called the victim's parents for a meeting but the victim’s parents avoided their call. The pedhamanusulu was angry with the girl’s parents, but the parents asked IWO activists for help. IWO activists filed a complaint with the police with a good witness. The police arrested the rapist Ravi and the village women and girls took courage from that incident.
Naturally, women and girls are happier and feel more empowered. They raised an IWO white flag which symbolizes liberty for Indian women and a peaceful life. Women in Thungathurthi now ask for IWO activists support every time they have a problem.
1. Our women's health and education program:
IWO teachers operate at evening schools. They provide education to illiterate women and girls in their local language and in English. Our teachers introduce national and international perspectives and solutions in order to stop violence against women, comparing societies around the world.
Leaders are teaching to the education and women protection laws.
Our teachers educate about safety and dowry-motivated abortion. Our teachers educate women about their rights and how to take legal action. IWO teachers are considered role models who inspire vulnerable women to take care of their well being, respecting and honoring themselves. Our teachers work full time on our women's health and education program.
We are giving monthly honorarium to IWO teachers and organizers and IWO full time workers. By donating to IWO you will contribute to women's health and safety in India, making a difference in their daily lives.

IWO activists have printed many pamphlets, in local languages, that will be distributed to people about stopping rapes and murders and ending violence against women. They include information teaching women about the laws that protect them. This information is needed for making progress in obtaining respect for the lives of women and spreading the message of this program. We print these pamphlets in the language local to our work. Help us make pamphlets.
