Campaign Story
A public school teacher sets on a journey around the world to find out what the most innovative schools have in common. This adventure will challenge, not only her view of how we learn, but how we live.
Hi, I’m Luz. This adventure began when I started teaching. The training that I received seemed insufficient to guide the next generations to create a sustainable future and have a fulfilling life. So my partner David and I decided to design our own learning journey: traveling around the world and learning from the most innovative education centers. Learning to learn.
After +100 interviews with educators, parents and learners from 6 to more than 60 years old, representing more than 15 countries, I am now working with a team to develop this story into a documentary film. Our aim is to raise awareness about the scale of the problem and the availability of solutions.
These are some quotes from those that have seen our extended trailer:
- “After seeing this film, I won’t be able to sleep tonight” – teacher
- “Each of us has a role to play” – teacher
- “What I thought it was happening, it is really taking place” – teacher
- “I have to show it to my whole school!” – teacher
- “I don’t want my daughter to suffer what I suffered at school” – mother
- “It opens your eyes” – student
How are you working to have a social impact?
To answer the commonly-asked question “what can I do in my classroom?”, we are developing a virtual learning experience for educators. This online course will leverage the additional materials captured during the filming of the interviews, in addition to pedagogical research, simplified methods and tools so that they can move to action and start implementing some of the practices of these pioneer learning centres. To further drive the change of paradigm that we intend, we will use this online experience to create a community among teachers from different education levels and regions to support each other and enter into a continuous process of learning and improvement.
When will the film be ready?
The complete version is expected to be ready after summer to be submitted to film festivals. It will be made available to the public by end of 2021 or beginning of 2022.
What do we need the funding for?
For more than two years, we have been funding the project out of their own pockets and with the support of volunteers, following our motivation to transform education. However, to complete the film and ensure that it reaches many people we need additional support for post-production, distribution and promotion.
Who is developing the film?
This project is driven by two social entrepreneurs and education researchers, Luz Olid Díaz and David Caballero Pradas, who share the responsibilities for direction and production. They both trained as scientists and worked in biomedical research before making a big shift in their lives to focus on social entrepreneurship and education. They are originally from Spain and have lived in the USA, UK, Belgium and Mexico. On the other hand, Danny Bartlett leads the creative direction and editing of the film. He has over 18 years of experience in multiple artistic fields, including film, writing and fashion design. Finally, Alfredo Guerrero is the music composer that is developing the soundtrack.

I saw your 15-minute trailer at the AERO conference. It's brilliant! I'm looking forward to the completed movie so I can watch it and share it with educators around the world.
