Hello, A team of youngsters who have a passion for STEM and will represent our country Tanzania, at the FGC this year needs your help! Kindly continue reading :)

Apps and Girls is a Tanzanian award-winning social enterprise founded in 2013, that empowers girls and young women to create the world they want to live in using technology. Our overarching objective is to invest in girls and young women as potential tech entrepreneurs, tech creators, tech role models, and leaders, in Tanzania and across Sub-Saharan Africa. In order to achieve this goal, we are implementing an innovative cyclical process of advanced coding training, entrepreneurship training, mentorship, and incubation. The process itself harnesses the power of digital technologies, notably through the creation of coding clubs in secondary schools, an offline and online women’s tech entrepreneurship incubator and e- mentoring to match emerging tech entrepreneurs with mentors. First Global and Apps and Girls have been working together since 2017, and as a result, our students have been able to take part in First Global robotics competitions every year.

About FIRST Global: FIRST Global is a US-based not-for-profit public charity with a mission to inspire science and technology leadership and innovation in young people from all nations to increase understanding, impress the importance of cooperation, address the world’s most pressing issues, and improve quality of life for all. FIRST Global also strives to convince the various national governments and organizations of the world to embrace science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, and to support it by investing in their young adults who will soon begin to make their marks in the world. This year's First Global Robotics Challenge will take place from October 13 to October 16 in Geneva, Switzerland, and will draw young people interested in science and technology from around the globe to compete.

About Team Tanzania: Our team is composed of one technical mentor with a background in engineering and robotics. Our other team mentors are peer mentors who are also FIRST Global alumni currently majoring in different fields of studies like computer engineering, information technology, and mechatronics. Our team also receives help from local organizations like Institution of Engineers – Women Chapter where our team mentor is working and Apps and Girls which donates a place for our team to meet and build the robot as well as providing software development skills training. Students on the Tanzania FIRST Global Robotic Challenge team share a strong love for science, engineering, and technology. The students will be the daring innovators, leaders, and scientists who bring about improvements in both our nation and the world. Maria, Hellen, Amezia, Beldi and Joseph will waive the Tanzanian flag at the FIRST Global Challenge in 2022. These youngsters, who have a passion for STEM and are very inquisitive, are thrilled to be a part of the FGC 2022. For some students, this is their first opportunity to learn about the technology behind robotics, but for others, it is a chance to finally realize a lifelong goal. Determination, putting in a lot of effort as a group, and concentrating on international cooperation led to greater enthusiasm, which sparks people's creativity and produces more original ideas.

Impact on Participants: This program uses robots to build self-confidence, skill sets, imagination, courage, and vision to solve communal problems using STEM among girls. It also urges other youth to participate equally in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) by bringing these future STEM leaders together in engaging and collaborative local and international competitions that drive home STEM education.

We need your help to make this possible!
