Support Antoaneta’s participation in WOW 2023

My name is Antoaneta Tica and I am a visual artist working in Bucharest, Romania. I am interested in environmental protection and I especially create pieces of wearable art from recycled materials. The concepts of my works are also related to environmental topics.

My works have been exhibited and presented both nationally and internationally. Among the most important events I have participated in are Innovative Costume of the 21st Century, Moscow, Russia; The Big Squeeze: The Corset as Art, New York, USA; Paper on Skin, Tasmania; RoGuiltlessPlastic 2023 in Milan Design Week, Italy; Skipton Big Ideas, St. Helier, Jersey. I also got involved in many projects related to sustainability, including Camilla Plastic Ocean Plan, Potsdam, Germany; Universal Sea, Pure or Plastic!?, The Mask Landscape by OISTAT.

In 2018 and 2019 I won three awards for wearable art - two Artist International from Wearable Art Mandurah, the third being First Award for Wearable Art, Arts Center East, Vernon, CT, USA. We also won a REUSE sustainability award in 2018 within the Universal Sea project, Pure or Plastic!? by Institute for Art and Innovation, Berlin.

In 2022, I participated for the first time in the biggest international wearable art event, World of WearableArt New Zealand. I am the first artist from Romania who succeeded in this, and this year I brought my country on the WOW map for the second time as 2023 WOW finalist.

Initiated in 1987, World of WearableArt is the largest project of its kind in the world and promotes, performs and exhibits works of art created specifically to be worn and presented on the human body. The purpose of the event is to award the best costumes entered. In addition to the competition, World of Wearable Art offers showcase events, exhibitions, and offers participating artists numerous opportunities to stand out through professional photo shoots, exhibitions, and collaborations at various art events. Thanks to these opportunities, the number of artists who want to participate in this event is increasing every year, and the selected works are more and more valuable.

The selected artists are expected in Wellington starting on September 20, 2023 to participate in the events offered especially for them by World of Wearable Art, among which the award show on September 22 will announce the winning artists.

Being among the few Romanian artists active in this artistic area, and the only one who reached this international level, I consider this a special opportunity to take part in all these events.

Therefore, it would be a joy for me to benefit from your support to participate in WOW 2023, respectively for the initiation of a unique collaboration, and with great potential for the future, between the Romanian and New Zealand cultural environments.
