Campaign Story
The world’s solution to ending poverty is to treat the symptom and not the cause. Donations of food, money, and clothes are all necessary for short-term solutions but these “short-term” solutions have been continuing for decades. Not only is poverty not being addressed or solved, the “solutions” create a cycle of dependence and – many times – the dumping of donated products, such as food and clothing, puts local businesses who offer the same items out of business. This actually creates MORE poverty.
The solution to poverty doesn’t come in giving people free stuff for a lifetime, it’s meeting people’s needs in the short term while coming alongside them to develop sustainable, economic development that allows people to support themselves, their families, their communities.
Today, we are asking you to partner with us so that we can help solve poverty for those in Kenya. We have discovered a simple, sustainable solution that will change the lives of generations for generations. Would you believe the solution is…a tree? It’s true!
The Moringa tree could almost be called a miracle tree and is an important step in finally freeing Kenyans from the cycle of poverty The Moringa tree is a sustainable approach to combating poverty, malnutrition and environmental degradation. Every part of the Moringa oleifera – pods, fruits, flowers, roots and bark are edible and rich in nutrients. The leaves and pods from the tree can be used for food to feed families, cattle feed, and also as a bio-fuel. The sale of these leaves and pods to community members and farmers can generate income for rural villagers. The trees will provide a reliable source of nutrition as well as raw materials for an indigenous system of medicine. This "miracle" tree will provide long-term social enterprise opportunities for rural women's groups which can help end poverty but – potentially – hunger too.
The Moringa tree is also a tough, durable tree. It is drought resistant and essential for climate change mitigation and adaptation in these areas. The Moringa Tree also has the potential to help over 10,000 community members to treat water from contaminated sources. Planting these high yield trees will go a long way to address malnutrition and contaminated water fetched from shallow wells, earth dams and sand dams.
Our mission – the one we need YOUR help to make happen – is to fund the purchase and planting of these life-giving, life-saving trees for the Makueni area in Kenya. Will you help us finally end the cycle of poverty?
Trees for the Future and Agroforestry Organization will utilize the money raised through this campaign to establish nurseries which will raise 40,000 Moringa tree seedlings which will be distributed to 2000 households in the Makueni area of Kenya. We will help train these households on how to process every part of the Moringa…how to use it, package it, sell it.
We can solve poverty for the Makueni area of Kenya. Will you help us do it? Click the donate button and be part of the REAL solution to poverty.
