My friend, Marc Konrad Macalintal, Mako to many of his friends, has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. This is a type of cancer in the blood that can spread quickly if not treated immediately and requires phases of chemotherapy. His girlfriend and his friends will be setting up different fundraising events to help him in his fight to beat leukemia.
Last August 2019, he was diagnosed with leukemia. Only a few of his friends knew about it as he didn't want them to worry about him so much. He underwent chemotherapy and after a month of laboratories and tests, he was cancer-free. Still the fight isn't over because the doctor said to make sure that it won't come back and it's really all gone, he still needs to go on to the next phase of the treatment. He proceeded to the first of four consolidation chemotherapy and stayed in the hospital for a week.
However, as per his girlfriend, just a few weeks ago, he had shown some signs of relapse after post-remission. He was rushed to the hospital to undergo blood transfusion. And the day after, he was rushed back to the hospital again due to high fever. He will undergo another biopsy to confirm he really had relapsed (meaning the leukemia is back). 😥 This will also mean that he needs to repeat the first induction chemo in a much higher dosage. We are also preparing financially for the Bone Marrow Transplant that will give Mako a much higher chance in beating this leukemia.
Most of his and their family's savings were almost drained after rendering these tests. Aside from mental and physical pain, the medical expenses add up to the burden. I, as his close friend and brother, am knocking on your hearts to support him in his battle! I'm sure no matter how small, it would go a long way if put together.
Brother! I know you're strong, you can beat this! I'm 100% sure!
