Support grieving mothers and people struggling with depression in Tanzania

Marcus Mwemezi Foundation is a group of persons concerned with mental health and well-being of our children, adolescents and young grieving mothers, which was registered on the 6th November 2017. The original idea of the trust originated from one of the founder members who experienced losing a child and went through depression. This situation made her to realize how depression was not taken seriously by the public, communities, government, sometimes even family members and those who were not paying attention to it. Within these given contents and having been a victim herself, she saw the need to raise awareness on the issue of mental health with specific focus on depression for young mothers whose children are struck by death in their early age.

Marcus Mwemezi Foundation’s main objective is to raise awareness on mental health in Tanzania, in particular, depression and suicide. Since the establishment of the TRUST we have seen the need to continue supporting young mothers and people living with depression through raising awareness on social media and actual media also by providing counselling services and linking them to counsellors and psychiatrists for further medical assistance.

Vision

Seeing a Tanzanian society that understands depression and empowers people especially young mothers and their children to regain their life purposes.

Due to recent BBC Swahili feature of our organisation, we are currently facing the huge challenge of a considerable increase in our service demand but we lack the funds to accommodate the large number of people needing help from us.
