Support for Our Neighborhood Cats

Stray cats of 2 turned into dozens, this is the challenge we are facing in our home today.

It started out with a female puspin we lovingly named Gretchen, to date, she gave birth to 3 litters in our home. First around January 2020, to 3 kittens - 2 remains at our place we named Alma (Female) and Pulong (Male). Second on May 2020, to 5 kittens - 1 remains named Jeff the good-est boy (Male), and lastly on September 2020, to 5 kittens - 2 remains named Brutus (Male) and Mikmik (Female).

The 3 litters above were all born on 2020 and this is our challenge point. We have yet to spay Gretchen and everyone else. This also resulted to Alma giving birth to her first litter of 3 kittens last December 2020.

Our goal is get them all spayed and neutered at PAWS (Philippines Animal Welfare Society) before mid-year or as soon as we get funding. The current fee for spay and neutered is at Php1,000 for female cats and Php700 for male cats. All in all, total expenses for the procedure for 6 cats will be Php5,100, this is excluding the ineligible for 2 month old kittens of Alma. As a breadwinner in my family working a 9-5 job, it has been a conscious effort to budget and set aside fund for their cat food when we are already budgeting rent, utilities, and other household expenses. As table food scraps aren't enough as we budget our own food too, we buy the cheapest cat food in the market. My retired father even uses what little pension he gets for them. Any donation surpassing the needed amount for the spay and neuter procedures will go towards their food supplies as well as medication for Brutus who recently contracted an eye disease and is still in need of medical attention/follow-up (see photo below for more).

Moving forward, our family who loves animal aims to continue sheltering these lovely babies for as long as they want to stay at our residences. Getting spay/neutered will most definitely improve their life and at the same time, help control the overpopulation of strays in our neighborhood. Photo above taken earlier this week, we already brought him to the vet and was prescribed 3 medications, pending for another check-up to see if he will need surgery for eye removal.

Breakdown of $260 should we achieve the target:

• $105 - For spay and neuter of 6 cats

• $40 - Brutus follow-up vet checkup and medical supplies (Gentin, Tolfenol, and vitamins)

• $60 - A month’s worth of cat food and supplies

• $55 - Reserved fund for spay of Alma’s newborn kittens
